About BuildSignal Alberta

BuildSignal Alberta is a free, public construction-opportunity monitoring system focused on Alberta concrete, precast, cement, and civil-infrastructure work. It automatically collects publicly accessible opportunity listings from explicitly configured sources, normalizes them into one searchable database, removes duplicates, classifies relevance using deterministic rules, and publishes a free opportunity feed and email digest.

How it works

  1. A scheduled collector fetches listings only from sources that have been explicitly enabled and permitted-use reviewed.
  2. Every raw listing is archived as fetched, before any processing.
  3. Listings are normalized into a common schema, then checked against existing records in a fixed order (same source ID, project number, canonical URL, text hash, then weighted similarity) to avoid duplicates. Uncertain matches are never merged automatically — they're flagged for admin review.
  4. A deterministic, rule-based classifier (keyword, phrase, buyer, and region rules — no AI) assigns categories and a relevance score.
  5. Changes to an existing opportunity (deadline, status, buyer name, description, closure) are recorded as versioned change events.

What it is not

BuildSignal Alberta does not accept bids, represent any buyer, or guarantee completeness or accuracy. Every listing links back to its original source, which is always the authoritative posting. See Sources for what's currently enabled and reviewed.

Compliance

Adapters never bypass authentication, CAPTCHAs, or access controls, never solve CAPTCHAs, and never use a hidden/headless browser to evade detection. A source is only enabled after its permitted-use status has been explicitly reviewed and recorded.
